For bodies to grow time would not be needed,
for seeds to unite, if they could grow from nothing.

After these three years, I would like to summarize the results of my course at Ritsumeikan.
In many ways and for many reasons, it was a great experience that I hope will be repeated in the future. The students through their enthusiasm produced so friendly and fruitful atmosphere. Their different backgrounds, various interests and numerous topics that we were facing together, forced me to look for the common paths to be followed.
Since the very first year you have produced interesting and valuable prototypes. Some of them has been developed and used in other “environments” like GoH! (by...) adapted by me into Italian (European) context - and still used in some schools in Turin.
Everybody worked hard and put effort on the, but the most important thing is that everybody started to think about the meaning and influence of urban planning in global and local scale (on global and local field), about relationships and links between policies and political dependences, international relations and spatial planning.
I expect that you have understood (and if not – that you will find it after some time) that the purpose of my teaching was not only to learn by doing, but rather to learn how to think and learn by doing.
My wish was to give nourishment for your mind. I hope it came true.
I would like to thank professor Kanegae that promoted and supported this course and to all of his laboratory staff, always ready to help.
I would like to thank Miss Kaori Okamoto and the Ritsumeikan Administrative Staff for their professional and kind support.
I would like to thank the teacher assistants Dr.Masahiro Shirotsuki and Mr. Yosuke Toyoda as they carried the burden (often a physical one) of the organization and the time schedule and were so helpful during the sessions.
A special thought to the memory of the first one Miss Takako Haruyama her smile and gentleness I’m going to keep in my hearth.
...and a thanks to you all: for your goodwill, your efforts, your wishes, enthusiasm and power that you put on following this course. I feel like I do not deserve it, but I hope that at least you have increased your skills and knowledge.
I wish you all the best for your future.
Sincerely yours,
Paola Rizzi
